Wealden Iron

Annual conference held in Seaford, and hosted by the Wealden Iron Research Group, and Jeremy Hodgkinson to outline the bloomery and
blast furnace activity that took place in the region. A demonstration smelt was carried out on the Sunday afternoon. There was also a coach trip to the Anne of Cleeves Museum in Lewes for the famous Every collection of Ironwork, Newbridge (the site of the earliest blast furnace in Britain) and Wadhurst ( iron grave slabs).

The Lead Industry

An annual conference held in Middleham. The conference focused on the mining and metallurgy of lead and silver, with presentations on work carried out as far afield as Bolivia and Greece, and visits to local sites.

AGM Meeting

Held at the Royal Armouries, Leeds. The meeting addressed research frameworks in archaeometallurgy. There was also an opportunity to visit behind the scenes in the conservation and scientific sections at the Royal Armouries.
