Tinning

Plating or coating steel or copper with tin, to avoid corrosion. A mixture of pure tin and sal-ammoniac is applied to the object with an extremely hot pad; the vapourizing sal-ammoniac produces a metallically clean surface; and by continuous rubbing with the pad the craftsman distributes the molten tin evenly over the surface.
