The attached photograph of an iron object (the piece of slag is not relevant) was sent to the Wealden Iron Research Group by a correspondent in Sedlescombe, East Sussex, who wanted to know whether it might have come from a boat, it being found near where a wharf may have existed in early times. As the group is not in a position to answer the question, its interest being in the primary production of iron, I would be grateful for any help list members may be able to give as to where the correspondent could seek advice as to what this artefact may be. It is 9.5cm long.Iron object (and piece of bloomery slag)

It looks to me like some kind of bolt with a rivet on it.
